Dear Harry,
You should probably move to my home town Alagir, North Ossetia
According to the Nosidze's research, we have 75% of our population with G2 haplogroup. That is the highest number anywere in the world.
Answering your question, as far as I know the best source on this topic is
http://www.members.cox.net:80/morebanks/G2Ideas.html
Good luck in finding your ancestral roots.

While researching our family tree, my brother discovered that we are probably decendant Ossetian. We are also are of the G2 Halotype. As I was looking through this site, I found the page listing for Ossetian Pies. I would like to try to make them at home, but the amount of flour and salt needed to start, is not given, that I can see anyway. I can convert the metric measurements. Or is there somewhere else that I can get the recipe?
Thanks

Attention.
There is a unique and interesting material placed in chapter "Articles about Ossetians" - the Caucasian story "Princess Biaslanty", written in London by Agube Gudsov, the first Ossetian professional circus horserider.
Author of the project.

Bill Thurman : Very interesting site! |

I have always been interested in people from Russia, the middle east
and Asia. I am not Ossetian, but I think it's great that a relatively small
numbered group like the Ossetians can show other related people (and some not so related) how some ancient customs and languages can be held for thousands of years. much of my own heritage is Irish and Scot.
when I see names like Iron, Iran, Arran, Eirann, I can't help but think how much more connected in ancient history many of us actually are.
if anyone writes a modern updated book or two about the language and customs of the Ossetians and how that traces back to the Alans and Sarmatians, I'll try to be the first to go and buy it.

Thank you very much Mr. Myers.
It is unbelivable but so many of modern young Ossetians do not know that much about the ancestry of our nation. We usually studied the Ossetian history starting from medival times. But now with the means of internet we can learn more about the early roots of Alans. The DNA researches seem to be very interesting as well.
I am not sure if any Ossetian institution is doing the same DNA researches.
It will probably be a better idea to ask somebody in North Ossetian Medical Academy. Here is their e-mail address
nosma@sogma.ru
There will be some people for sure who can speak English.
And their web site is located at
http://www.sogma.ru/
But, unfortunately, all information is given in Russian.
Mr.Myers,
I would like to offer you to place here an article based on the topic of your previos comment, if you want. It would be a very interesting information.

Howdy Everyone. I learned a lot 2day reviewing this site which was revealed to me on my Y-G2 genetic site. I would like to see links to them here, including National Geographic -> Genographic Project FamilyTree DNA site, Peter Christy, Administator for G-2 DNA Project, His Address is "Peter T. Christy" haplogroup_g@mac.com -->> ptchristy. This site has many other Alan Genetic/History links. I note also that I never knew that we called ourselves "IR" (URI", which is the name of the Land of the North in one the Oldest Historical Epics (CA 2750BCE) in Existance, "En-Meru-Kar & the Lord of UAR-ATTA" in several translations. URI was north of UARATTA & SUMERU and a very important word signifying Foundation, Light, Beginning & City among others. These are meanings according to the Sumerian (Caucasic/Hurrian/Agglutinative) languages. I believe that Ossetian language has changed since ancient times from a Caucasic language, and it is likely our people, (particularly our G-2 Male Lines) have lived in these same Mountainous (KHURAIC) lands since before 6000 BCE, long before we traveled in all directions, especially into the Pontic Steppes, Europe, the Iranian Plateau & Sumeru, (Mesopotamia & the Middle East). This is my Major Field of Studies, our Homeland, The UR (Foundation Source) of our World Civilization. Finally, some Photos of the Great Big Dogs our Alanic ancestors used to breed would be interesting. I will be back in touch. My ancestors evidently arrived in very literate Orleans, Gaul circa 406CE and assimilated with the Franks as they took over from the Romans. They migrated with the Frankish Armies into the Rhineland, where they became Head Servants (MAIRS-MAYORS) of Frankish Estates in Alsace-Lorraine. At this time they began to speak the Germanic language. About 1737 they came to South Whitehall Twp, now Lehigh Co, PA & in 1918 my Grandfather Vincent Myers came to MILW to study Engineering at MSOE, & fathered my dad Ray, among others. My prayers go out to those in the heart of the struggle to remain free in our very own ancient Homeland. SincerlyYours, Jake Myers

Hello Ruslan.. Thanks a lot for this really nice web site.We learn many things about us. Many Ossetian people which live outside of Ossetia, like me,want to learn their own lenguage..But almost all the lenguage documents are written in Russian lenguage. Do I have to learn Russian first to learn Ossetian lenguage???????
I can speak Turkish and English, that's all..Please tell me something about learning my native lenguage..
best wishes to you all...
Ruslan Kuchity: Thank you for having such an interest towatds the history and language of your ancestry. Yes, the language is the only key to find the real way to the valuables of Ossetian "treasurus". And you do not have to learn Russian first. To learn Ossetian directly, you need some books, dictionaries and communication with Ossetians people. I would recommend you to find Ossetians in Turkey, who can bring you books from Ossetia and who also can talk to you in Ossetian. Lots of Ossetians live almost in every country all over the world. So, it is not a big deel to find them. Besides that there is a web site you can get some educational infromation from
http://allingvo.ru/

Hi Natasha,
I am glad to hear that you like the page about your Grandad. Thank you for the useful information as well. I would like to ask you something more.
Would you be so kind as to contact me at my e-mail address. You can find it on this page in the upper right corner.

I loved reading about my Grandad 'Grigori Tokaty' on your web site. I even learned something I didn't know about him.
Although The Independent reported that he had died in Cheam, he was only in Cheam for a very short while & that was because he wanted to join my Granmother in the home she was in at the end of her life. Their ashes are actually buried in Lambeth Cemetry in Tooting, South London & not in Cheam.

Very excited to find your site! We adopted our younger son from Vladikavkaz in 2002 and even though he thinks of himself as "Russian," he is Ossetian, and I want him to know about and be proud of his homeland and culture. We hope some day to be able to visit again.

Thank you for visiting the web site.
It introduces the Ossetian nation to the world in all aspects. And according to the well-known Ossetian hospitality, we are always happy to see guests in our virtual and real houses. We say: "Every guest is sent to us by God".
So, welcome to Ossetia any time, and you will receive a 5-star, all included service for free in any Ossetian house.
For the foreigners, I persistently recommend not to skip the sport categories of the project. Since Ossetia has been considered as one of the most dominant world free-style wrestling centers, you will find lots of interesting information stored in those categories.
God bless you!

It is very interesting knowing about Ossetians. Ossetians are really great people to have preserved their culture despite being so few in number. I am a Pashtun. Pashtuns are a people that inhabit Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan and their language like Ossetic is East Iranian. But we are far great in numbers (about 40 millions). Like Ossetians, we have warrior traditions and are considered premier warrior nation of the region.
Good stuff to read about Ossetians. Please include some more pictures of common Ossetians. Also, how can I find material about Ossetic language?
