Shota, genatsvale.
If I was a Georgian I would think the same way.
But I am an Ossetian and my point of view is different. There are plenty of Ossetians live in Europe, America, Turkey, Russia and in Georgia. But for those who is Ossetian in soul (not by citizenship) there is only one Homeland in the world - Ossetia.
If the territory which you contemptuously named "so called South Ossetia" has been occupied by Ossetians for several centuries it is definitely Ossetia, not Georgia. And nobody cares about the Machabeli - Zhordania's (in18-20th centuries) or Gamskhurdia-Saakashvili's present claims. You can claim Vladikavkaz with the same success - there are about 12 thousand ethnic Georgians live there. But will anybody take it seriously? No.
Believe me, we have more freedom in Vladikavkaz and Tskhinval than you have in you Khashury.
Returning back to the article, Shota Chochishvili became a first Soviet Olympic judo champion. Because he represented the Great country and the Great nation.
I also remember Vakhtang Balavadze, Dito Shanidze, Levan Tedeashvily, Mikhail Meskhi, Murtaz Khurtsilava and hundreds of Georgian Soviet great champions. They all represented the country you hate so much now. The country you are so proud to be separated from. And they where like brothers for fellow Russian, Ossetian, Armenian, Ukrainian and many other athletes.
Where are the great Georgian champions now? Where is Dinamo Tbilisi, a former European super club? Where are the famous movie stars, musical performers, dancers?
It's all related.
They all used to become popular through the Soviet sport, Soviet and Russian culture, advancing the Georgian culture through "Moscow" to the world stage. And Georgians were the most prosperous people within the former USSR.
Nowadays, just few people in the world know where Georgia is.
You are not part of a Great country and Great nation any more. You are a small fragment of a big shiny beautiful diamond which was crashed by Satan forces.
Yes, you are formally independent (there couldn't be the independent countries with population of 4 mln. people, though). But what does this independence give you? Do the regular Georgians feel happier? Do you have better options to develop and advance Georgian culture and values? I doubted. Your independence is a bluff. You will do whatever Americans want you to do. Кто платит, тот и заказывает музыку. Nobody pays for just to hear "thank you". Then may be being a part of a still great neighboring country is better than to be a puppet (sorry, but this is true) of a superpower located at the other side of the globe?
Political or administrative freedom and independence are very good tools the politicians are usually operating with. It doesn't necessary mean that they are as good for the regular people too.
